Join The Griot Museum of Black History and Counterpublic as we host a neighborhood-wide block party celebrating the closing of Counterpublic 2023 as well as The Griot's 25-year history and new campus expansion with interactive workshops for all ages, music, food, and more.

For this event, St. Louis Avenue will transition into a vibrant block party, brimming with live performances, food trucks, art activities and social services. Marvel at the dynamic stilt walking of Kunama Mtenandji. Groove to the harmonious jazz renditions of Dylan Bosan and Cain Penton. Get your shout on with soul-stirring melodies from the House of Jones Gospel.  Move to dance performances by Star Struck Divas. Vibe to community-resonating hip-hop beats of Makis Raqueem.

Unleash your creativity and forge unforgettable memories as you engage in interactive activities that cater to all ages.  Savor delectable food, discover valuable community resources, and bask in the warmth of like-minded souls who share a passion for art, history, culture and community.

So, mark your calendars, gather your friends and family, and come celebrate with us for a day of wonder and celebration!

As an anchor site of Counterpublic 2023, The Griot has been host to community listening sessions, educational tours, artist commissions and numerous collaborative programs throughout the exhibition. The Block Party is meant to bring community together around The Griot's continued expansion as an essential gathering space in the St. Louis Place neighborhood.

In light of recent allegations against David Adjaye, this event has been changed to focus support towards the efforts of The Griot Museum of Black History. Our ongoing commitment is to ensure The Griot's continued expansion as an essential gathering space. This is true in this moment, and beyond. Click here to view our official statement.
